This rotated view of earthen floor gives shows additional aspects of the renovation. We were asked to add a tiled pad for the new fireplace that was moved from a center spot in the room. We are always happy how nicely earthen floors look with inlaid tiles in them. They hold up well and rarely separate over time.
We applied our standard eco-friendly oil blend to this floor in multiple passes. We have in the past used linseed oil, but prefer ourselves to use a blend which has less off gassing, both for ourselves and those living in the house. There are quite a few options to consider when finishing earthen floors. For example – a tinted aliz (or alis) top coat which can give you almost any color you desire. To tinted sealants (we have not personally used). Or simple oil coats to waterproof the floor. Then adding wax to stain proof, which can be refreshed over time.
