This image features the in floor radiant tubing which is buried in the cement slab. Underneath the tubing is 2 inch rigid foam which can be seen, to serve as a cold block to the ground underneath and to minimize losses to the heating. We have installed many radiant in floor heating systems, most of them using solar hot water panels. This one, however, will be hooked up to a standard hot water heater which will be housed in the new garage and can be adjusted as needed. We have found over the years that when comparing earthen floors to cement – the conductivity of the cement in-floor heating feels a bit warmer to the touch. Earthen floors, however, are very effective with in floor heating and provide a softer touch to the feet overall.
