The custom mosaic shower we were asked to execute is shown in this image. We were given a variety of tile styles and colors (5 to be exact) to put together. Some of the tiles did not have consistent thicknesses, the first hurdle when asked to create this custom mosaic shower stall. The other was to use combinations to make the colors blend. The goal was to put them together in a “Moroccan” styled design to match the deep blue pigmented cement floor. Carolyn came up with a design which has a wide center stripe in the middle to start the design process. She then book ended the larger tiles on outer edges for outer field.

To be frank, this shower design was quite a challenge to execute. Once the mesh of the quarter inch mosaics got wet, they would almost disintegrate. We ended up re-meshing all of the sheets of smallest mosaics, which tool more time than we would have preferred. But it did ensure they would not slide once applied to the vertical walls. There are always lessons to be learned when using any new building material or vendor, and this one for certain – taught us a great deal.

In the photo above you can see the striped pine tongue and groove ceilings clearly. Our client wanted to bring patterns into the entire house design so chose the beetle bark pine, often discarded.
