Straw bale walls windows installed – shown here. The straw bales are up, pinned and tightly secured. The walls have been straightened and air gaps stuffed. The framing crew followed closely behind us to quickly install the windows. As seen in prior images the wooden support members have all been covered. The next goal is to apply a scratch coat of lime enhanced cement stucco. The walls need to be protected while the interior detailing can occur over the winter. Norbert worked with a local plastering crew to apply the rough plaster coats. The architect and client wanted a rough application look to the walls. Given the local crew had never worked with a lime mix – nor done custom applications, it made good sense to have Norbert join them. The plan is for us to return in spring and apply the final coat with them as well, which may include a custom color we will help create.
