Here is a an image of a rustic half adobe wall we created. This garage turned into a man cave needed a hand rail added to meet code requirements. Also our friends wanted to create some separation between the entryway and main room. We all decided that this simple half wall could also be used as the backdrop for a computer desk.
The walls of the garage turned into a man cave were very rough and rustic. Our friends wanted to keep them in that condition to contrast the crisp new walls we were adding. Using the old adobe bricks we took out when we punched through the adobe wall, we made this rustic half adobe wall. It was a fun challenge to try and do the opposite of what we normally do. Make things as perfect as we can.
Repurposing one of the flagstone pieces found outside made a great cap for the wall. Due to the ragged nature of some of the adobe bricks, Carolyn had to hand-tool and repair some of them. Some of what you are seeing in the photo are literally bricks she completely “faked”. You can also see how the mortar patterns are less than perfect. And that the bricks are as well. The goal was rustic and raw, so we did not spend ages trying to make the bricks look perfect. As we would with a new wall, with crisp new bricks.
Our friends bought an interesting small hand forged rod iron handrail (found online). It added the final touch to this nice room feature. We then added cork flooring to the four existing steps leading into the main house. Another nice touch to finish off this new home add-on.
