Featured here – a new window installed in this double adobe walled living room. Notice the deep inset of the window which reflects the depth of the double thick adobe walls. The new windows installed were trimmed in a simple pine trim oiled with linseed oil. We also applied a healthy wax blend to provide additional protection. The trim will turn slightly golden with age.
Also shown, the reddish toned earthen plastered walls. As mentioned in prior images, the clay soil was harvested locally. We are fortunate to have a variety of local clay soil colors to choose from. So added tints or clay are not necessary to create lovely earthen plasters, as is.
On the right wall can be seen the lime plaster we applied in part of the home. We use lime plasters for areas with heavier use or when waterproofing is needed. In this case, we were using a slight tan tint in the bathroom and laundry area. We decided to pull that color into the living room on one devoted wall to help keep this small living room bright.
Again featured in this image, as others – the rough-sawn oringial ceiling with vigas. As before we cleaned them and spot repaired them as needed. The rustic chic wagon wheeled style light fixture we helped choose is also shown above. We were drawn to this particular light fixture design. Perhaps due to the aged glass showing exposed bulbs and the wooden design features top and bottom with metal detailing. It felt like true rustic chic with a bit of current trend twist thrown in.
The rich tones of the ceiling are again mirrored in the new engineered flooring which was designed to look like antique “barn wood”. We helped choose this flooring due to its simple application and good price, keeping within the budget.
On the opposite wall an entry door was closed up and window installed to allow for more light. It also will provide more wall space for furniture in this tiny room which had room for only a few small pieces.
