Deep window sills made of pine planks create the trim for the new bedroom window.

This very old adobe home had only single-pane windows installed. A standard back in the day. We replaced them with new double-pane windows to add energy efficiency – as much as you can get from a window, that is.

Then thin pine planks were used to trim the windows. The window sills reflect light nicely. Especially with the added depth of the double adobe walls. The window trim and sills were sanded and sealed with linseed oil. Linseed oil will turn a soft golden tone with sun exposure over time. A final coat of a beeswax blend was added at the end to give a bit more water proofing.

The earthen plastered walls are a signature look of ours. Gold kaolin clay with silica sand for a fine finish.

We combine kaolin clay, silica sand and iron oxide yellow to create the look. It is one of our most popular plaster colors, one we have in our own home. The 3 part application and fine grit of the sand and clay make the walls feel and look a bit like velvet.

The warm gold plaster creates a nice contrast to the engineered antique “barn wood” flooring installed throughout. The flooring is easy to install, has a good price point and is durable. The style is made to look like reclaimed wood. Everyone on the project felt it was a good economical option to place throughout the house. And we all loved the final look.

We turned an entry door in this room into a solid wall. And then added a niche for a simple creative touch. It added wall space and helps the cozy bedroom room feel bigger.
