These new bedroom walls feature our classic kaolin gold earthen plaster.
Our blend combines kaolin clay, silica sand and iron oxide yellow to create a fine finish. It is one of our most popular plaster colors. In fact we have it at our home. The 3 part application and fine grit of the sand and clay make the walls feel and look a bit like velvet.
The warm gold plaster creates a nice contrast to the engineered antique “barn wood” flooring installed throughout. The flooring is easy to install, has a good price point and is durable. The style is made to look like reclaimed wood. Everyone on the project felt it was a good economical option to place throughout the house. And we all loved the final look.
Seen above, again, is the original plank ceiling with vigas cleaned up and touched up. Just enough to retain the original rustic feel to the house, and to freshen up the room.
We helped the couple choose the drop down dome light. This small bedroom now has a cozy warm feel.
The many decades old small adobe home had only single-pane windows installed. They were standard for its day.
We replaced them with some new double-pane windows to add some energy efficiency.
Norbert used wide thin pine planks to trim the windows and double adobe walls. The window sills reflect light well with the added depth. The window trim and sills were sanded and sealed with linseed oil. Over time linseed oil will turn a soft golden tone with sun exposure. We then added a final coat of a beeswax blend to give them more water proofing.
The overall look in the end was one we would do again if given the chance. Warm, earthy tones with a slight rustic edge, Done with precision to keep the house casual with a slight upscale touch.
