This image highlights the underside of the corrugated metal portal on the southwest side of the house. Medium steel beams were created to hold the simple grey corrugated metal sheets.
Positioning the overhang on the southwest side of the house will eliminate some of the passive solar gain in winter. If the sun were able to penetrate the large windows then hit the cement slab floor directly – the floor would hold and radiant the heat. The portal on this side of the house does provide a great view of the nearby sweeping landscape. Conversely the portal blocking some of the sun will keep the house cooler during summer months.
