This sculpted tree wall detail is inlaid into the curved cob and straw bale walls as a color transition point between the upstairs brown earthen natural plaster and downstairs gold kaolin clay earthen natural plaster. The tree was created by Carolyn using gypsum which was then sanded during the various drying stages, then oiled with a light pigment which added interesting detail to the sanded details. The niche created in the cob wall (photo right) has a custom wooden plank sill, is a focal point for art and other organic objects. The contrast of the dark earthen floor (aka mud or adobe floor) against the gold earthen plaster creates a stunning effect.
