Shown here is the first coat plaster adobe wall – applied to the banco (bench) built into the wall in the large living room. This first coat of plaster was created using the foundation soil during excavation, which we determined had enough clay content to provide a good, solid “scratch” or brown coat.
The first coat is applied to level and begin smoothing out the walls in preparation for the more delicate custom tinted kaolin plaster which will follow this coat. As can be slightly seen in this photo, the plaster is still in the process of drying (is almost completely dry) and the mortar joints can be seen a bit, for now.
