This sage green earthen plaster was harvested from the land surrounding the job site. We were asked to walk the property and use as many found clay as possible for the plasters. While walking the area we found a few tan tones, white and this green- which in the bright sun had looked yellow. Upon laying this clay upon the wall for test samples it turned into this beautiful sage green earthen plaster.
We loved it as did the owners, who asked us to plaster an arched walkway which connected two buildings. We honestly were a bit worried as the amount of clay at the site where it was harvested was very small. Returning to the area, we scooped up as much as we could.
One of the amazing aspects of this particular clay, discovered in an arroyo wash was it’s make up. It had just enough fine clay and sand particles to not require any additional sand. Something we had never encountered. The formula also required we adjust our application method. It soaked up water quickly and had a completely different feel than any of our more hearty mixes. So was a bit nerve wracking to apply, until we got the hang of it.
We loved the look and feel of this plaster quite a bit. So upon project completion, we kept a few gallons of the precious mix for ourselves. And used it for a clay paint seen in the sun room entry area of our own home – seen here
