The upstairs bedroom with floor to ceiling windows in our straw bale house gives a dramatic view of the surrounding woods and meadow in this secluded house in the mountains of New Mexico.

The goal upstairs was to create a cool, light, open and airy sleeping space to contrast the darker, warmer tones of the downstairs living/dining and kitchen areas. Adding details upstairs such as a light bamboo flooring, a white pine tongue and groove ceiling, and creating a tan earthen plaster from clay harvested near the home site were just the touches needed to create the desired effect.

Other details include a reused burgundy ceramic fireplace of a style we personally had never seen before and were happy to take from a kind client and give a place in our home. The large windows were hand-crafted and hand-milled by Norbert using white pine lumber milled on our land. All in all the bedroom is a beautiful space to enjoy, we are very pleased with the outcome.
