The combination of blue kaolin clay earthen plaster t&g ceiling made of white pine – creates a calm feel while the curved wall serves as a backdrop to the headboard in the bedroom upstairs of this straw bale house. The wall is made of adobe bricks and is a continuation of the circular wall downstairs – having the triple function of also hiding the circular staircase made of hand milled wooden planks and serving as backdrop to the masonry stove on the first floor. The intention was to have multiple purposes for this wall, creating efficient use of space. The low energy use lights dropping from the tongue and groove ceiling allow each person a reading light at night. The custom sculpted graphic element in the middle of the wall (in white) has gentle organic shapes carved into the solid gypsum to create the look of a wood cut piece of art.
